October e-news: AFL Grand Final Day in the Hospice

For a while there it looked like the Hospice would be draped in the Crows colours on Grand Final Day. But alas this wasn’t to be. Not this year.

Instead, the Sydney Swans took on the Western Bulldogs and what a game it was. Arguably it was probably the most entertaining final for many years.

Some patients quietly watched the game while many others invited family and friends to join them; to celebrate a great Aussie tradition – to watch the AFL Grand Final together.

Not everybody was into the AFL, but for those who were – to be able to share in this special day with their family and friends meant so much to them.

Thanks to you, the Foundation was able to provide a delicious afternoon tea (including meat pies of course) with a beer or two and a glass of wine.

Everyone – even those who weren’t interested in the football were delighted and really enjoyed the afternoon.

Even though the Bulldogs took the flag, the real winners at the end of the day were all our supporters, who brought a couple of hours of normality to 16 patients and their friends and family as they cheered on their team and watched a fantastic game of football.

For many of them, you helped to create a special memory; one that they will never forget.

Fingers crossed that we can get one of our local teams into the Grand Final in 2017 for an even bigger and better Grand Final Day celebration.

You might like to support our next group experience. It could be a pizza night or an ice cream machine in the family kitchen, the cheese and wine trolley or Melbourne Cup celebrations.

You can put cheese on the cheese and wine trolley - $50

You can be part of brightening the day for everyone in the Hospice - $100

You can provide one of the monthly group experiences - $300
