The Mary Potter Hospice
The Mary Potter Hospice, located in the grounds of Calvary Healthcare North Adelaide, is the largest and only privately owned purpose built palliative care unit in South Australia. The Mary Potter Hospice is a service of the Sisters of The Little Company of Mary and has an enviable international reputation as a leader in the field of Palliative Care. This covers such areas as:
- Intensive patient care, pain and symptom control
- Respite care
- Home/outreach services
- Patient and family bereavement counselling
- Support services for partners and family
- Advisory services to other professionals in the field of palliative care
- Education and training - providing training to university students, eg nurses, social workers and medical students.
A vast range of services is available, all provided by compassionate and highly skilled people endeavouring to give physical, emotional, social and spiritual support; to not only the patients, but their family as well.
Such highly specialised services do not come cheaply. Unfortunately the Mary Potter Hospice operates with a considerable annual shortfall for both private and public patients.
The Mary Potter Foundation works hard to raise the funds to bridge this gap and also provide the necessary equipment and refurbishing needs.
Without financial assistance from the community, the ability to continue to provide the current high level of care and equipment would be seriously jeopardised. The need for this facility to continue this specialised care is paramount for all South Australians.
"You may never need the Mary Potter Hospice, but we certainly need you".
