Calvary Cancer Services

Calvary Cancer Services - located in Kimberley House (pictured above)within the private hospital setting of Calvary Healthcare North Adelaide - prides itself on providing expert care for the whole person diagnosed with cancer.

While the centre mainly provides chemotherapy treatments, its consultations focus on the individual needs of the person who has cancer.

If you or someone you know has cancer and wishes to be treated in such a unique setting, Calvary Cancer Services has all the benefits of both private hospital care plus world class, research-based teaching hospital experience.

The centre provides consultations with medical oncologists (specialist doctors using medicine to treat cancer), radiation oncologists (specialist doctors treating cancer with radio-active isotopes) haematologists (treating malignant diseases of the blood), counselling and palliative care.

The main work of the Calvary Cancer Services is the treatment of cancer by medical oncology - either for outpatients or inpatients. Patients can be an inpatient when complications arise or when symptoms are not easy to control at home.

Calvary Cancer Services co-ordinates a full range of services and care to meet your individual needs. These services can include breast care nursing, stoma care nursing, dietitian, counselling, relaxation and meditation, pastoral care, education about cancer, home nursing services, palliative care liaison and 24 hour home support.

Designed to Assist Cancer Patients at Calvary North Adelaide, the 'Restore' Program is the first of its kind in Adelaide, and embraces complementary therapies as part of standard care for cancer patients receiving treatment at Kimberley House, Calvary North Adelaide.
Kimberley House is now the home of North Adelaide Oncology and Calvary Oncology Day Centre and provides a range of specialist cancer services including Medical Oncology, Haematology, Radiation Oncology, Palliative Care and Breast and Gynaecological Surgery.

The Restore program is designed to introduce cancer patients to the importance of holistic cancer care
through educational sessions with access to services on site at Kimberley House. The program offers dieticians,
physiotherapists, psychologists, meditation, massage, reflexology, acupuncture and information on government
and community resources for cancer patients. 'Our goal is to help our patients to be as physically and
mentally well as possible, not simply treat the cancer. A good diet, regular exercise, management of symptoms
and relaxation have all been demonstrated to improve quality of life and allow people to tolerate and recover
more quickly from their cancer treatments” says oncologist Dr Tabitha Healey.
“All of our patients will be encouraged to attend the education sessions and then provided with access to a
range of services free of charge in the hope that they will experience the benefits and continue to incorporate them
as part of their journey.”
The Restore program has been partly funded through The Mary Potter Foundation with the generous
assistance of Australian Executor Trustees and the Ross Divett Foundation.

( The Ross Divett Foundation is an initiative of Centrelink staff to support the Australian Community, in memory of the late Mr Ross Divett. The Foundation is committed to the Australian community and will assist a broad range of individuals and organisations by distributing funds for charitable and community purposes. (Ross Divett was the first deputy chief executive of Centrelink, when it formed in 1997, but died prematurely in 2001 from an asbestos-related cancer).
