Premier Rann visited Ray 'Pedals' Jones recently to present him with an award recognising Ray's official retirement from his 'Ride for Love' for The Mary Potter Foundation. Ray was thrilled to see his old friend the Premier again, and has asked everyone to dig deep and support his 'last hoorah'! Although Ray was not physically able to take part on his bike this year, he enthusiastically rode the kms on his excersise bike, whilst his mates rode in his honour.

Premier Rann recognised Ray's dedication saying his commitment over the past 20 years has been an "inspiration to many". "I have known Pedals for many years and his wonderful work for the community, and particularly for Mary Potter Hospice, has been fantastic," he said."His Ride for Love for Mary Potter has touched many families and will continue to do so for many years to come."

The Premier presented Ray with a framed award acknowledging his outstanding work.

Mary Potter Foundation wins FIA Volunteer of the Year Award (SA),
for the second year in a row!

'Pedals’ Jones wins SA Volunteer Fundraiser of the year! Ray Jones (or 'Pedals' as he is widely known) is a dedicated 88 year old cyclist who has given his time, energy, friendship and service for more than 17 years to the Mary Potter Foundation Inc. Over these years, Ray alone has raised over $120,000 in sponsorship money for the Mary Potter Hospice through his annual 50 km 'Ride for Love'.

This outstanding fundraising effort from Ray has assisted the Foundation raise money for the Mary Potter Hospice, which is solely reliant on the generosity of the public for its survival. Sponsorship money he has raised has also directly helped the Hospice to purchase items used in bereavement care, assisting grieving children, a cause very close to his heart.

Unfortunately, due to health, last year was Ray's last physical ride for the Hospice. Friends of Ray rode this year in his honour, but eager as ever, Ray was on the sidelines, with his wife and staunch supporter Pat - cheering them on. Ray is now taking a well deserved rest!

In recognition of his outstanding volunteering service, Ray won the coveted 2009 Cadbury Fundraiser Volunteer of the Year (SA), Division A at the Fundraising Institute of Australia 2008 SA awards night. Ray was made an Honorary Life member of The Mary Potter Foundation in 1996 for his commitment to our cause. The Mary Potter Foundation is indebted to this generous and selfless man who has given so much to us, for so long.

Congratulations Ray!

Mary Potter Foundation wins National FIA Volunteer of the Year Award!

At the 2008 Annual International Fundraising Institute of Australia Awards for Excellence dinner, The Mary Potter Foundation Inc was awarded the National title for its proposal nominating Mr Ronald Grigg for Volunteer of the Year.

Ron's family were thrilled when notified of his achievement in winning the national title, and we are proud to honour his memory with this wonderful award.

Mary Potter Foundation wins State FIA Volunteer of the Year Award!

The Mary Potter Foundation was honoured to be recognised in the 2008 Awards for Excellence in Fundraising through the Fundraising Institute of Australia.

The Foundation won the category of ‘Cadbury Fundraiser Volunteer of the Year (SA)’ for their proposal recognising the efforts of their long term volunteer, Mr Ronald Grigg.

Ron’s interest in volunteering resulted after his wife Mary passed away in the Mary Potter Hospice. He always felt a strong sense of ‘giving back to the community in appreciation for the care Mary received’.

Ron was a unique and special person. His commitment to the Foundation as a ticket seller, volunteer, advocate and friend was unwavering. Day after day, rain or shine, Ron would walk the streets educating all he met on the mission of the Mary Potter Foundation, and in the process generating much needed funds, and collecting a few friends along the way!

This sense of selfless giving back would forge a deep mutual respect and lasting friendship between Ron and the Foundation; that would continue until his passing in June 2007, aged 90, leaving a large void in our fundraising family.

Ron’s daughter Shirley so kindly said when told of the award “You gave Dad’s life purpose and a lot of enjoyment after our Mum passed away. We are so thrilled he has been acknowledged like this. He would have been so touched,  Thank you.”

Ironically, the Foundation won the award on what would have been Ron’s 91st birthday, and our poignant Lighting of the Loving tree.  A very memorable day for all. A fitting tribute for a very special and much missed man.
